Natalie Goffe secures acquittal in assisting an offender murder trial
A 20 year old defendant was charged with two counts of assisting an offender. The Prosecution alleged that the defendant engaged in a series of acts that assisted two co-defendants. The defendant was said to have provided a change of clothing, allowed the use of her mobile phone, provided her sim card that was placed in the co-defendant’s handset and arranged for a taxi booked in her name to convey the co-defendants home.
The defendant disputed the suggestion that her actions were conducted with intent to impede the apprehension or prosecution of the co-defendants. The defendant also denied that she knew or believed that the co-defendants committed any offence.
The trial involved substantial camera footage, telecommunications, and drill music expert evidence. The trial lasted 8 weeks and after ten days of deliberations, in June 2023 the jury returned not guilty verdicts on both counts.
