Current Statistics for the Criminal Justice System

For those of you interested in the numbers, the most current statistics for the Criminal Justice System (CJS) in England and Wales were updated on 22/12/22.

The headline figures are as follows:

  • 1.35miliion individuals were dealt with by the CJS in the year ending June 2022
  • Community resolutions increased
  • Out of court disposal decreased
  • Prosecutions increase by 7%
  • Convictions up by 10%
  • Defendants remanded in custody at Crown Court on the rise
  • The average custodial sentence for all indictable offences rose from 22.6 months to 25.7 months
