Clerks and support staff

Our experienced criminal defence clerks accept instructions for our advocates. They have an in-depth knowledge of the criminal justice system.

Meet the clerks

We can accept instructions from any firm of solicitors in England and Wales for any client qualifying for criminal legal aid.

Robin Driscoll, Senior Clerk, Advocacy Team

Robin began his career as a Junior Clerk at 2 Paper Buildings (2PB) in the Inner Temple (London) in the 1970’s. He soon became First Junior Clerk and then Senior Clerk with Desmond de Silva who went onto to become The Rt Hon Sir Desmond de Silva QC. Together, turning 2PB into one of the leading Criminal Chambers of England and Wales. 

Robin takes great pride in the number of barristers he has clerked over the years who have gone onto become Queen’s Counsel, King’s Counsel, Recorders, Judges and High Court Judges. Robin also had the great pleasure of clerking “Judge Rinder” when he was a mere mortal. 

Robin joined the PDS in 2015 and leads the clerking team. He brings with him a wealth of experience when it comes to providing suitable Counsel for all types of cases and is always on hand to provide advice on such matters. Robin appreciates the need for building and maintaining existing and new client relationships and is committed to providing a first-class service. He will do everything he can to find a solution to any problem you might have.

Outside of work, Robin is an avid Chelsea fan, loves fishing and spending time in his garden. 

Charlotte Forey, Junior Clerk, Advocacy Team

Charlotte started out as a junior clerk in a London Chambers in 2016. Her career did start as a criminal clerk, but she then took opportunity to develop her career and progressed into a civil clerking role covering immigration, family and much more. Charlotte joined the Public Defender Service in 2020 as a Junior Clerk and brings 8 years of invaluable experience to the role.

Charlotte can assist in providing Counsel and can also provide the answers to many enquiries which you may have. Charlotte has worked hard to develop and maintain trustworthy and reliable relationships with new and existing clients. Charlotte also takes on responsibility for billing and fees enquiries.

Charlotte enjoys her clerking career and strives to provide the best service to all. However, in her spare time, she loves spending hours shopping, trying new restaurants and then working it off in the gym. She is also a mum to one so family time is a priority!
