What does the Public Defender Service do?

The Public Defender Service (PDS) delivers a full range of quality services within the criminal defence market.

What are public defenders?

The Public Defender Service (PDS) is funded by the Legal Aid Agency (LAA), an Executive Agency of the Ministry of Justice.

We can help you if you are accused of a crime, asked to attend an interview at a police station, or need first-class defence representation in court.

We specialise in criminal law cases

The PDS specialise in criminal legal aid, including proceedings brought under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002, military law, court martial and prison law.

We are specialist criminal defence lawyers for a range of criminal law matters.

Our criminal defence lawyers are highly experienced

Our criminal defence lawyers include QCs, barristers, solicitor advocates and solicitors. All of our team are regulated by the Bar Standards Board and Solicitors Regulation Authority. We have years of case experience in the higher courts and appeal courts.
